DESIGN LAYOUT

Keep The Design Simple - As with most things in life, it's best to keep things simple. Most search engines still don't read JavaScript very well. If your entire navigation set up is based on JavaScript it will be difficult to get all of your pages indexed. If the decorative drop down type menus are important to you, always provide a back up of plain text links.

Entrance Page - Try not to use a splash page or flash, for the entrance to your website. The main entrance to your domain should contain quality content and standard navigation.

Dynamic Pages - If you must use dynamic URL's, understand that many search engine spiders do not crawl them as well as static pages. Parameters should be kept to no more than two. If your domain host provides you with access to your .htaccess file, consider converting these pages to static URL's using mod_rewrite. Searches on Google for this topic will lead to a multitude of helpful tutorials for learning this process.Streamline Your HTML Code - The less code the search engine robots have to wade through, the more content on your page that gets crawled! Learn to use at
least some basic CSS (cascading style sheets) to streamline your html code.

Search Engines Love Content - There is no getting by the fact that search engines seem to love content. Every page on your site should use an absolute minimum of 250 words.

Is A Picture Really Worth A Thousand Words? - Robots crawl your pages in search of content to determine how to index your site.  If you tell the story with images, remember that robots are unable to see text on your images. This can become especially important when header graphics come long before any useful content on your page. The consistent use of alt tags on all images will help, but real content is always best!
